It seems to me that 'Crisis Capitalism' and the trend to authoritarianism out of crisis is a legitimate concern, but the COVID crisis and the U.S. reactions to government plans and solutions was not a rejection of 'elitism' or 'authorities' as much as the fact that our common citizens in the USA are science illiterate and irrationally skeptical.
