Will Obama use absolute power or create justice?

"As of January 20, 2009, if Obama decides to keep Blackwater and other armed war corporations on the US payroll, these private forces would go from being Bush's mercenaries in Iraq to Obama's. As commander in chief, he would be responsible for their crimes. As for the accountability issue, many critics allege that the most serious problems in holding contractors responsible for their crimes stem from the Bush administration's covering-up of their misconduct and immunizing them from prosecution, and the total lack of political will to bring them to justice. When Obama appoints a new attorney general, there will be more than five years' worth of crimes to investigate--and prosecute. " Blackwater Busted? by Jeremy Scahill As published in the Nation

Obama Transition FCC Net Neutrality Team

"The Obama-Biden transition team on Friday named two long-time net neutrality advocates to head up its Federal Communications Commission Review team . Susan Crawford, a professor at the University of Michigan Law School, member of the board of directors of ICANN, and OneWebDay founder, as well as Kevin Werbach, former FCC staffer, organizer of the annual Supernova technology conference, and a Wharton professor, will lead the Obama-Biden transition team's review of the FCC. 'Both are highly-regarded outside-the-Beltway experts in telecom policy, and they've both been pretty harsh critics of the Bush administration's telecom policies in the past year.' The choice of the duo strongly signals an entirely different approach to the incumbent-friendly telecom policy-making that's characterized most of the past eight-years at the FCC." Reuters has a related story about Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND), who plans to introduce net neutrality legislation in January.

Unconstitutional

Unconstitutional is the new, hour-long documentary from Robert Greenwald -- one of the most prolific and progressive producers in Hollywood -- in conjunction with the ACLU. This new film written, directed and produced by Nonny de la Pena, details the shocking way that the civil liberties of American citizens and immigrants alike have been infringed upon, curtailed and rolled back since 9/11 and the USA Patriot Act. The war on our Civil Liberties. The real story behind the USA PATRIOT Act and other administration policies and the gut wrenching stories behind those affected--from law-abiding store clerks to United States Olympians unable to travel. It'll remind you of what America used to stand for and what it seems we're falling for now. In short, this one-hour film will affirm why you're angry and give you a tool to help others join your ranks.

What do you want in the first 100 Days?

Last week, the American people elected Senator Barack Obama the next president, and the nation's first African American president. The Center for Constitutional Rights, born out of the Civil Rights movement in 1966, recognizes this moment as historic. It is clear that the nation is ready for change: to be a society known not for torture and abuse, unjust war, arbitrary detention and overreaching executive power, but for its respect for human rights. Now, more than ever, it is the time to press forward and insist that President-Elect Obama makes restoring the Constitution - and undoing the vast damage done to it - a priority in his first 100 days in the White House. Make your voice heard-join the Center for Constitutional Rights' 100 Days campaign and produce your own " 60-Second Soapbox ," a short video that tells the next administration what you think should happen in the first 100 days in the White House. The best 100 videos will be featured on our website in 2009.

The last of a dying breed, American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh

'You cannot believe how many people have told me to call them on 20 January [the date of the next president's inauguration],' he says, with relish. '[They say:] "You wanna know about abuses and violations? Call me then." So that is what I'll do, so long as nothing awful happens before the inauguration.' He plans to write a book about the neocons and, though it won't change anything - 'They've got away with it, categorically; anyone who talks about prosecuting Bush and Cheney [for war crimes] is kidding themselves' - it will reveal how the White House 'set out to sabotage the system... It wasn't that they found ways to manipulate Congressional oversight; they had conversations about ending the right of Congress to intervene.' Four decades separate My Lai and Abu Ghraib. You have to ask: wasn't it appalling for him to be investigating US army abuses of civilians all over again? Didn't he think that lessons might have

The First Global President

This is interesting. America is imperfect, we are a racists, a corrupt and ignorant nation, but we did the right thing, we elected the best person for once. But as the first "African-American" (postmodern hybrid) president, Barack Obama will be judged harshly, his every move and decision will be scrutinized and criticized. If he were to fail, it would be the end of the progress and could be the end of this world. Thus failure is not an option. Any man is fallible, but this president must not fail, so we must all help him succeed! Sacrifice whatever is necessary, Work HARD, Succeed! Prosper. As peoples all over the world celebrate the American Election, I am stunned that we still lead the world. Must I say it. You are the change you have been waiting for, just be it.

Document the VOTE!

In this election season it has become known that most of the nation will be voting using hackable vote tallying machines . ( see Hacking Democracy and Black Box Voting ) Even if you have a paper ballot, record the unique identification number of your ballot, and check to make sure the ballot is recorded correctly. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PAPER TRAIL, TAKE A PICTURE OF THE TOUCH SCREEN WITH YOUR CAMERA ON YOUR CELL PHONE! If you vote using a Provisional or Absentee ballot, chances are as high as one in three ( 33% ) in some areas that your ballot will be lost, or discarded due to an error in the Address, or some other anomaly. ( see Absentee Ballots ) In the 2004 election, 1.9 million U.S. voters cast provisional ballots. However, only 1.2 million (64.5%) of these provisional ballots were counted. 2 To further complicate this untenable mess, the seven major TV networks, and much of the spectrum of Radio and Newspaper media have conglomerated their EXIT POLLS and are now paying a si
